Parental Responsibilities
Parents are encouraged to remind their child/ren of their responsibilities as listed above, as well as assist them with these Iqra School requirements:
Homework Policy
All homework must be completed. The success of a student is based on our philosophy of “I hear, I forget; I see, I remember: I do and I understand.” For this reason, it is imperative that homework be completed. Failure to do so may result in enacting our Student Disciplinary Policy.
Parents are requested to check their children’s planner on a daily basis and encourage the child to keep track of his/her activities. Parents are NOT encouraged to enter the classrooms in order to meet with homeroom teachers. Any grievances must be addressed to the Principal.
Monthly Progress Reports
Parents will receive a monthly phone call from class teachers to update them on their child’s progress. Iqra School produces three formal report cards during the school year, and conducts two parent-teacher interviews to discuss student progress.
Health Policy
- Any child who has had diarrhea three times needs to go home. The student may not return until stool is normal.
- Any child with discharge from the eyes needs to go to the doctor and may not return until their eyes have been free of discharge for twenty-four hours.
- Any child who has a fever of over 100 degrees F. and is uncomfortable (crying, aching, coughing etc.) needs to go home. If a child has a fever, the class teacher will decide whether the child may remain at Iqra. When a child has an infection or is on medication, he/she must remain at home for at least twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
- Strep throat is a serious infection. It needs twenty-four hours to clear after medication is prescribed.
- Any child who has vomited two times for reasons other than choking or coughing needs to go home and cannot return until vomiting has stopped for twenty-four hours and regular diet has resumed.
- Communicable diseases such as Chicken Pox require that the child remain home for at least five days.
- If a teacher sees that a child has head lice, parents will be notified to keep the child at home until the problem is cleared up.
Medication Policy
All parents must complete a medical information form at the beginning of the school year and return it to Iqra in order that we may update our files. Parents should also administer any prescription drugs to their child at home. In cases of special need, parents should hand-deliver medication in its original container, fill out a special form listing written instructions, and give these to the home room teacher. The prescription should be under the name of the child concerned, and not under the name of any other family member. The time and date of the administering of the drug should be recorded by the home room teacher.
Pick-up and Drop-off Points
Please note the following rules are for the safe pick-up and drop-off of your children and for smooth and safe transition of this process. As well, these rules are to accommodate safety requirements of our neighbours in the condominium. Please note carefully:
- Do not park cars along the hash-marked (West or main) entrance of the school at any time. This area is for the school buses.
- All students must be picked up or dropped off at the side (North) entrance in the morning or afternoon. Failure to do so may result in accidents. Our neighbors and the city zoning committee have requested that we implement such a policy.
- Road rage should not be vented against other drivers of the condominium or other parents within the condominium roadway.
- Parents are requested to be considerate of others and to not obstruct traffic or double-park.
